Governor Mara Lezama highlighted that investment from the U.S. and Canada will allow the installation of a maintenance workshop and a cargo terminal with USD 24 million in Chetumal.
As part of the Mexico Plan led by President Claudia Sheinbaum, Chetumal advances as a strategic hub to attract high-value industry.

Cancún.— With the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Zenith Aeronáutica for cooperation on deep maintenance and aircraft repair projects, as well as the establishment of a Cargo Service Center, the Chetumal Development Hub for Wellbeing becomes the first to receive direct foreign investment, reported Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.

The Governor announced a historic investment of USD 24.3 million from Zenith Aeronáutica to install two high-impact business units in Chetumal, the state capital: the Zenith MRO Maintenance Workshop and the Zenith Cargo Terminal, creating hundreds of direct and indirect jobs that will benefit families in southern Quintana Roo, as well as promoting the use of renewable energy.
As part of this investment, Alberta Aviation Capital Corporation (AAC), a Canadian company dedicated to aircraft and engine leasing and providing flexible fleet solutions to airlines in North America and around the world, announced its participation in this strategic initiative: it will send its aircraft to Chetumal for maintenance and will use the cargo services to the Antilles and Central America.

After a meeting attended by Eduardo Mauricio Pérez, CEO of Zenith Aeronáutica, and Luis Sergio De Urioste Limario, Vice President of Aviation Capital Corporation, Governor Mara Lezama stated that this achievement is the result of coordinated work with the private sector and the ongoing support of a humanistic government that drives transformative projects.
“This investment confirms the enormous potential of the southern region and reaffirms that Chetumal is ready to become a strategic point in the aerospace industry. As a government, we promote projects that generate jobs, strengthen new productive vocations, and allow development to reach everyone. The installation of these business units represents a decisive step toward a future of greater competitiveness and shared prosperity for Quintana Roo,” said Mara Lezama.
Regarding Chetumal, she highlighted that, in addition to being a vibrant city, it is directing its growth toward sectors beyond commerce and public administration. It benefits from a Free Trade Zone decree and has a Strategic Fiscal Precinct; it is one of the 13 Development Hubs for Wellbeing created by President Claudia Sheinbaum under the Mexico Plan and is in a strategic location.
In addition, it has infrastructure including an International Airport and connection to the Tulum airport, as well as a Maya Train station that will soon offer cargo service.
She also emphasized that this new project represents a vote of confidence in the governments of the Fourth Transformation, which promote balanced development to generate shared prosperity for all.
This investment represents a decisive boost for the economic development of Quintana Roo, by consolidating new productive vocations in the aerospace industry and strengthening the competitiveness of the southern part of the state.
